What Will Happen at my Initial Consultation with our Brantford Bankruptcy Trustee?

Posted on Friday, November 04, 2005

At Hoyes, Michalos & Associates Inc. we pride ourselves on personal service. At our Brantford office most appointments are conducted by personally by me, Douglas Hoyes, the trustee responsible for our Brantford office.

Our Brantford personal bankruptcy office is located at 218 Brant Avenue. To ensure that we have enough time to discuss your situation, an appointment is required, so please call us at 310-PLAN to book your initial consultation.

The purpose of our initial meeting is to review your unique situation, and develop an action plan to deal with your financial problems (which is why our phone number is 310-PLAN).

I will ask you three important questions to get started:

First, who do you owe money to? I will want to know the names of your creditors (such as Visa, Mastercard, and bank loans) and how much you owe them.

Second, I will ask for a list of you significant assets, such as cars, houses, and RRSPs, and how much each of them is worth.

My third question will be “what do you earn each month, and what does it cost you to live each month?” It helps if you can bring your recent paystubs to our meeting, and make a list of your monthly living expenses, such as rent, food, and car payments.

This information will help me assess which financial solution may be right for you. We will talk about debt consolidation loans, credit counselling, consumer proposals, and personal bankruptcy.

The initial meeting helps me understand your situation, but it is also your opportunity to ask me whatever questions you want. You will have my undivided attention, so I encourage you to make a list of your questions in advance of our meeting so I know I have answered all of your questions..

Once your questions are answered I will give you a copy of our information package with some brochures that have more information about consumer proposals, and personal bankruptcy in Brantford. You can then go home and read through the material, and decide on your next step.

I will never pressure you into making a quick decision. I encourage you to talk your time reviewing your options. Talk to your friends and family, and call my office after our first meeting in Brantford with any other questions you may have.

To book your initial free consultation, e-mail us or give our Brantford office a call at 770-4440 or 310-PLAN, and let’s get started.
