Does Coffee Cause Bankruptcy in Brantford?
No, coffee does not cause people to declare personal bankruptcy in Brantford.
However, coffee is one of those little treats we spend a lot of money on without realizing it, and it’s those little things that add up to big things, and can eventually cause us serious financial trouble, even bankruptcy.
In Brantford it seems like there is a coffee shop on every corner. (Of course I'm exaggerating, but I don't live that far from the office, and I pass at least four on my way to work). Coffee is not illegal, and many of us need a jolt to get going every morning, but have you ever stopped to add up the cost of coffee?
If you grab a $2 coffee on your way to work in the morning, and grab one at your morning coffee break, and at lunch, and at your afternoon coffee break, that’s four cups or $8 per day for coffee (and I’m ignoring doughnuts and smokes with your coffee).
$8 per day, 5 days per week, 50 weeks of the year is $2,000 per year! And since you pay for the coffee with your own money, you probably need to earn at least $3,000 per year, before the government takes their cut for taxes off your paycheque, just to buy coffee!
What else could you buy for $3,000? A lot, I assume.
Am I saying that coffee is bad, and you shouldn’t drink it? No, I'm not. In fact, I have a cup beside my computer as I'm writing this.
What I am saying is that you should consider where your money goes, and only spend what you can afford to pay. If you had an extra $2,000 per year in your pocket, you could use the money to pay down your debt, and perhaps avoid bankruptcy!
Instead of giving up coffee, why not buy a coffee maker, and a tin of your favourite coffee, and make your own. Buy a big thermos, and you can drink more coffee for less money.
By making small sacrifices, the money adds up.
